As we stood on the spot on where Tel Aviv - the first "Hebrew City" - was founded in 1909, and where the State of Israel was established in 1948, our guide for this part of the tour, Heschel Center staff member David Pearlman-Paran raised the question: 'as reality quickly overtook the limited plans of the founders of both the city and the state - did it also erase their vision? Can a sustainable city be planned?'
