Building a Sustainable Society: Israel through the Eyes of the Heschel Center |
WELCOME to Israel and to the 2007 Friends of the Heschel Center Israel Study Trip, "Building a Sustainable Society: Israel Through the Eyes of the Heschel Center." We invite you to join board members and friends of the American Friends of the Heschel Center as we learn from the teachers at the Heschel Center for Environmental Learning and Leadership about the state of sustainability in Israel. Click here to view videos of some of the experts and activists we spoke with on this trip. Arrival day: Tel Aviv walking tour: What makes a sustainable city? As we stood on the spot on where Tel Aviv - the first "Hebrew City" - was founded in 1909, and where the State of Israel was established in 1948, our guide for this part of the tour, Heschel Center staff member David Pearlman-Paran raised the question: 'as reality quickly overtook the limited plans of the founders of both the city and the state - did it also erase their vision? Can a sustainable city be planned?' |
